About Laura
I have been riding since I was two and a half, getting my first pony aged 7. The Burghley Pony Club was my first experience of competition, being on the 12.2 showjumping teams and the Junior PPC team. As a combination, my 12.1 ["Annie"] & I represented the Burghley at Area level for PPC, and also acted as reserves. However, Annie and I hit a brick wall with our jumping, which caused me to have a major confidence crisis. I then moved onto a 13.2 ["Sharlie"] when I was 11, and we spent 11 wonderful months together. Donna Hyland-Jeffrey helped me build my confidence back up with my showjumping, helping Sharlie and I progress quickly as I began to trust her more. Sharlie & I represented the Burghley at Junior Area Showjumping, coming fourth in the tack & turnout, and I was the youngest on the team. As a partnership, we represented the branch on numerous showjumping teams, including open teams. We came 6th in a puissance, clearing 1.15m, and qualified for the Trailblazers 95cm Showjumping second rounds.
Unfortunately Sharlie retired early due to a check ligament injury, and I took up the ride on Talavera II ["Tally"] in February 2004. I also bought a 148cm showjumper, First Impression III ["Chester"]. I have continued to compete both since, and I have been riding them for five years. I have been competing out of my age group since I was 12, competing against seniors on Tally. Tally & Chester have represented the Cottesmore Hunt Pony Club on various teams over the past five years, including at Area Level in both showjumping and eventing.
Both are affiliated to the BSJA, and have winnings on their record. Chester has won in excess of £150, and Tally has won almost £100. I have been competing in senior BSJA classes since I was 13, and have won & been placed on numerous occasions [although technically still a junior]. I affiliated to British Eventing in August 2007, completing my first two events on my dressage score. In one season I progressed to Novice level, and completed my first CIC* in 2009. I finished my 2008 eventing season with a 5th place at Oasby Horse Trials on my Peter Piper. I have produced Peter myself, having bought him as a hunt horse from the Master of the Vale of White Horse hunt.
In 2008 I attended the Trailblazers Showjumping Championships for the first and last time, and came away the victor in one of the junior classes. In September 2008 I featured in equestrian weekly Horse & Hound. Tally was selected as Septembers Horse of The Month.
